Learn to Learn

In class, your child will engage in meaningful discussions, trackable challenges to prepare them for a life of learning and action.

Learn to Do

We will present your child with hands-on learning and apprenticeships to prepare them for future challenges and opportunities.

Learn to Become

Your child will understand how to be a compassionate thinker and a virtuous member of society, acting to improve the community.

Teaching Approach

Torah

The Torah shall be their guiding light

Learn: They will learn the skills to learn independently and joyfully so they will continue to grow in scholarship throughout life. (Gam ki yazkin…)

Do: They will develop the diligence (Hasmada), depth of learning, and the skill to challenge their own assumptions so that they will incorporate Torah into the structure of their daily lives.

Be: They will learn to live with every act inspired by Toras Hashem, develop the clear thinking that comes with a Torah mindset, and learn to create a Torah environment in whatever setting they find themselves in.

Avodah

Their independent Avodah shall be their personal connection to Hashem and their unique contribution to the world He has given them. (Avodah is a reference to both Tefilah and a career.)

Tefilah
Learn: They will learn how to communicate with Hashem both through scripted prayers and dialogue.

Do: They will Daven daily with an emphasis on inspiration and feeling as well as compose their own personal daily prayers which will develop over time.

Be: They will live life having Hashem on speed dial and look forward to daily prayers.

Career
Learn: They will learn the skills and academics required to excel in business as well as explore and appreciate the unique gifts that have been bestowed upon them.

Do: They will set up small businesses using e-commerce and business fairs and get internships for real-world experience.

Be: They will be successful, knowledgeable, ethical, and well-equipped employees, managers, and bosses.

Gemilas Chasadim

Interacting with the community and with the world as functional, well-adjusted people with excellent Middos.

Learn: They will learn about interpersonal(Bein Adam L’Chavero) Middos and the practical value of excellent character in friendships, community, marriage, and leadership positions.

Do: They will practice interpersonal(Bein Adam L’Chavero) Middos with peers, each 6-week block focusing on a specific Midda. There is an end of the day “shout out” where the students will recognize each other for their effort in a given Midda.

Be: Go out into the world as a Mentsch.

21ST Century Learning

  • The latest in educational technology for self-paced mastery of reading, writing and math skills.
  • Deep Socratic discussions about heroes, history, and self-governance to hone critical thinking skills and the ability to powerfully think, write and speak.
  • Hands-on project based Quests to master the tools and skills needed to solve problems in the real world.
  • Written promises and covenants that form a tightly bound community of individuals learning to form authentic friendships and honestly resolve interpersonal problems.

Our Philosophy of Learning

We believe that:

Clear thinking leads to good decisions,
Good decisions lead to the right habits,
The right habits lead to character and
Character becomes destiny.

Personalized Tools

Measuring Mastery

Young heroes celebrate the mastery of tools, skills and character by earning badges, assembling portfolios and taking part in public exhibitions.

  • Parents use badges to track academic progress in Core Skills like reading, writing, math and spelling and character development in “Learn to Be” Badges.
  • Electronic and hard copy Portfolios capture rough drafts, photos, video and other creative work.
  • Public exhibitions at the end of most Quests allow young heroes to present work to experts, customers or the public for a real world test.
Badges Approach

A Learning Driven Community

Students create and sign a Contract of Promises describing how each individual will act and the consequences for violating community norms.
Mentor teams encourage younger and older students to listen, affirm, set goals and hold each other accountable.
“Learn to Be” badges that celebrate character and completing leadership challenges.
